Joe Kalicki for City Commission Seat 5

Get to Know Joe

Currently Joe is the Director of Product Development for Tallahassee-based health informatics company Ruvos. Joe has most recently led projects serving the CDC with critical health data and led efforts with the World Health Organization to create policy and decision making tools for disease outbreak scenarios. He has spent the last decade building technology products that serve the auto, insurance, logistics, and healthcare sectors. Joe is a technologist who has a diverse skill set of technical solutions design, project management, product management, interaction design, and management leadership.

Joe was born and raised in Leon County and has had exposure to city hall since he was young when he would attend city and county commission meetings with his dad. Joe’s family moved from Houston, Texas to Tallahassee in the early 1980s to open Southern Country Mobile Homes and later worked on sustainable affordable housing development projects.

He is a lifelong Florida State Seminoles fan -- his favorite memory being FSU men’s basketball beating #1 Duke in 2002. 10 year-old Joe met Dick Vitale when he stormed the court with the college students. On some long dead cellphone, there is a very low resolution photo of the two.

Joe has been an above-knee amputee since birth and used his life experience and platform to speak to children and adults facing health challenges during his teen years. He also raced against “the Blade Runner” Oscar Pistorius in the Endeavor Games. Joe asserts that he only lost because Oscar was 18 and Joe was 13.

He is an avid musician and artist and has participated in the Tallahassee cultural community, performing shows since his teen years throughout the city. He has self-released music under numerous projects since the early 2010s.
